Regional Ruby Conferences Roundup

With the opening of South by Southwest Interactive, the tech conference season begins. Ruby on Rails is entering its third year, and Ruby itself is really coming into its own when it comes to events.

There are a bunch of little regional Ruby conferences happening this year that you should know about, varying in degrees of size and formality.

After all, there may be one really bigass bud, but that’s no reason not to let another thousand flowers bloom.

Mountain West Ruby Conference

Topping the charts in size, level of organization, and “soonest to now” is the Mountain West Ruby Conference, in Salt Lake City, Utah, March 16th and 17th of this year (admission is $50). They’re also the most specific, of the regional confs, about what’s going on and who’s speaking.

I can’t go, but I find myself wondering about the weather in Utah in March. It certainly is a state with many unique and beautiful landforms.

SDForum Ruby

Everyone’s favorite polymorphic blogger Josh Susser has all the details for this little 2-day conference in sunny San Diego Silicon Valley, April 22nd and 23rd of this year. Except the exact location and price, unfortunately, because they are getting a bit of a late start organizing it.

The SDForum conference is still looking for speakers (details at Josh’s blog). You might want to apply or just keep tabs on this event.

Gotham Ruby Conference

You. Me. New York City. One day. The Gothamist Ruby Conference is slated for April 21st, put on by the NYC.rb (New York City Ruby Brigade). The details aren’t really solid yet, though.

The Gotham conference is still looking for speakers (and I will probably apply), so again, you might want to apply. Or just keep your eyes peeled.

  1. Paul Lambert says:

Isn’t the SDForum conference in Silicon Valley, not San Diego?

  2. Amy says:

    Durr. Right you are.

I don’t know why I keep thinking that SD is "San Diego."

  3. Scott says:

Thanks for posting about this, Amy! I won’t be able to make it to RailsConf this year, but the Gothamist Ruby Conference is a lot closer to where I live, and should allow me to get my conference-fix.
